Minecraft Dye Colors
The sixteen dyes that colour banners, wool, beds, glass, concrete, candles and leather, where each one comes from, and the exact colour value the game uses.
Mixing recipes
- Orange = red + yellow · Pink = red + white · Lime = green + white
- Light blue = blue + white · Cyan = blue + green · Purple = blue + red
- Magenta = purple + pink, or blue + red + pink, or blue + 2 red + white
- Gray = black + white · Light gray = gray + white, or black + 2 white
Easiest farms for each colour
Bone meal on grass spawns flowers from the local biome, so a flower forest gives nearly every flower dye. Cactus (green), sea pickles (lime), cocoa beans (brown) and ink sacs (black) are the only non-flower sources worth farming. Lapis lazuli from mining covers blue without any farm at all.

Questions players ask
How many dye colours are in Minecraft?
Sixteen: white, orange, magenta, light blue, yellow, lime, pink, gray, light gray, cyan, purple, blue, brown, green, red and black.
Which dyes can only be crafted by mixing?
Purple has no natural source and must be mixed from blue and red. Every other dye has at least one flower, plant or mob drop that gives it directly.
What are the hex codes for Minecraft dyes?
The values in the table are the colours Java Edition uses when it tints dyed items such as banners, wool-coloured leather armour and fireworks. Wool and concrete blocks have their own textures, so they look slightly different.
Can you dye leather armour any colour?
Yes. Mixing several dyes with leather armour in a crafting grid averages their colours, so you can reach far more than 16 shades. Banners, beds, wool and glass only take the 16 dye colours.
