How to make a Minecraft skin here
- Pick the model. Classic arms are 4 px wide; Slim arms are 3 px. Choose before you paint the arms.
- Block in big colours with Fill face. Fill stays inside one face of one body part, so a click colours a whole sleeve side without leaking.
- Add shading with the Pencil. Shade one or two steps darker toward the bottom and the back; highlight the top edges. Flat single colours look like a mannequin in-game.
- Use Mirror so the left arm and leg copy the right ones as you draw, then turn it off for asymmetric details.
- Put hair, hoods and jackets on the second layer. It sits half a pixel off the body and gives depth. Leave it transparent where you want the base to show.
- Download and upload. Java: Launcher → Skins → New skin. Bedrock: Dressing Room → Classic Skins → Import.
Want to start from someone else’s look? Load any Java player’s current skin with the skin grabber, then press “Edit in skin editor”.
Need to know which rectangle is which? The labelled Minecraft skin template shows every face and lets you click a body part to see where it lands on the 3D model.
Questions players ask
How do I upload my skin to Minecraft?
Download the PNG, then for Java Edition open the Minecraft Launcher, go to Skins, choose New skin, pick Classic or Slim and browse to the file. On Bedrock, open Dressing Room, choose Classic Skins, then Import and select the PNG.
What size is a Minecraft skin?
A modern skin is a 64×64 pixel PNG. Older skins were 64×32 and had no second layer on the body, arms or legs; this editor converts those automatically when you import them.
What is the difference between Classic and Slim?
Classic (Steve) arms are 4 pixels wide. Slim (Alex) arms are 3 pixels wide. The texture layout is the same except the arm areas, so pick the model before you paint the arms.
What is the second layer (overlay)?
Every body part has an outer layer drawn slightly larger than the base. Use it for hats, hair volume, jackets and sleeves. Transparent pixels on the overlay show the base underneath.
Is my skin saved?
Your work autosaves in this browser only (localStorage), so you can close the tab and come back. Nothing is uploaded. Use Clear saved skin to remove it.
Can I use semi-transparent pixels?
Only on the overlay layer. Minecraft makes the base layer fully opaque, so this editor always paints the base with full opacity.
