Three ways to get enchantments
Enchanting table. Costs lapis lazuli and 1–3 levels, but you need 30 levels available to see the best offers. With 15 bookshelves placed correctly, the bottom slot tops out at level 30. See the enchanting table setup.
Librarian villagers. The only reliable source of Mending. Reset a librarian’s trades by breaking and replacing its lectern until it offers the book you want, then trade once to lock it.
Anvil combining. Merge books and gear to reach max levels. Every anvil use raises the item’s prior-work penalty, so the order you combine things decides whether you hit “Too Expensive!”. The enchantment calculator finds the cheapest order.

Questions players ask
How many enchantments are in Minecraft?
This list covers 43 enchantments in current Java and Bedrock Edition, including the mace enchantments (Density, Breach, Wind Burst) and the spear’s Lunge. Sweeping Edge is Java-only.
What are treasure enchantments?
Mending, Frost Walker, Soul Speed, Swift Sneak, Wind Burst and the two curses never appear on an enchanting table. You get them from villager trades, loot chests, fishing or bartering.
Which enchantments conflict?
The protection types conflict with each other; Sharpness, Smite and Bane of Arthropods conflict (Density and Breach join that group on the mace); Silk Touch conflicts with Fortune; Infinity with Mending; Depth Strider with Frost Walker; Multishot with Piercing; Riptide with Loyalty and Channeling.
What is the highest enchantment level?
In survival the highest is V (Sharpness, Smite, Bane, Efficiency, Power, Impaling, Density). An enchanting table offers at most level 30 enchantments, which is enough to roll these at max rank. Higher levels exist only through commands.
